Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Frankfort

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Denis Power documented the Frankfort ringfort in 2011, revealing an eighteen-metre circular enclosure hidden beneath thick heather and gorse on a cold northern slope. The earthen bank stands only half a metre high, yet it guards a forgotten chamber where human hands once shaped the mountain. What seems like a modest fairy fort may instead be a crowded living space, its boundaries erased by centuries of neglect and regional belief.
In uncultivated mountain terrain, on N-facing slope. Circular area (diam. c. 18m) enclosed by an earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.5m) with an external fosse (D 0.35m; Wth 0.9m). Interior and most of enclosing element are covered by heather and gorse. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
