Fairy forts are human places misnamed by wonder, and this is one of them: a raised circular area in County Cavan, Ireland, enclosed by an earthen bank and shallow fosse. The outer bank has mostly been levelled, but the inner ring still marks a boundary made deliberate. A narrow break at the south-east may have been the entrance, a small gap where people, weather and time crossed into the middle.

Raised circular area (int. dims. 27.4m ENE-WSW; 28.3m NNW-SSE) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a shallow fosse. Low outer bank noted in an earlier report (OPW 1970) has been almost totally levelled. Original entrance may have been at SSE where there is a narrow break in the inner bank and a causeway across the fosse. A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Drumhillagh, likely dating to the early medieval period, is characterized by a raised circular area enclosed by a substantial bank and fosse. Local folklore, common to such sites in Ireland, associates it with the faé or other supernatural beings.
