What is recorded here

Dooncaha holds a D-shaped earth and stone ringfort twenty-one metres wide, perched on rising pastureland to watch every approach. Its south bank drops into a narrow fosse, suggesting humans built a defensible home rather than leaving a marker for fairy tales. The clear views and solid rampart imply residents valued warning and protection, perhaps watching for trouble long before written history arrived.

Internal diameter 14m N-S, 21m E-W Situated on rising pastureland with excellent views in all directions, this site would appear to be a D-shaped univallate ringfort. Though marked 'Carheen' on the OS maps it would appear to be constructed of earth and stone. The exterior height of the N bank rises to a maximum of 2.2m. Along the S bank, which runs E-W for 26m, there is an internal fosse measuring 1.2m below the bank and 1.2m in width. The S bank measures 3m in width at the base and .8m externally.
