Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Bawn (moydow By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Thirty-foot circle of clay and memory on a wet Longford rise, half quarried, half hidden. The fairies never left; they only stopped building walls people could touch. What remains is a bruise in the pasture, deep enough to mark the boundary between the seen world and the one that breathes beneath it.
On a rise in low-lying pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 29.1m) defined by a scarp (H 0.7m at SE; 1.65m at NW). A report in 1977 (SMR file) recorded traces of an external fosse, which are no longer visible. The original entrance is not recognisable. Most of the SE quadrant has been quarried away.
