Hot stones, boiling water, and hungry people: that is what a fulacht fia is. In Curraghprevin, one disturbed pit sits at the hill base near a tributary of the River Bride, with two more within a short walk, a small cluster of heat and effort beside water. Perhaps cooks worked there through rain and wind, dropping heated stones into basins until steam rose like a white animal. The bypass and topsoil tip came later; the pits remained, waiting for someone to imagine the smell of pottage and the sound of water striking stone.

A 'disturbed' fulacht fia was discovered during archaeological monitoring of an area to be used as a permanent topsoil tip adjacent to the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass. It was located at the base of a hill, c. 25m N of a tributary of the River Bride and it remains in situ. Two other fulachtaí fia (CO044-104----, CO044-105----) lie c. 70m to the SW and c. 110m to the N, respectively.
