Standing stone in Crooksling

Standing stone

What is recorded here

No visible marker remains in Crooksling, though Ua Broin placed a large boulder on Saggart Hill near Lauranaree in 1957. That absent stone may have marked a boundary, a burial, a meeting place or merely resisted being moved. People forgot its exact spot because ordinary landscapes swallow unusual things. The missing stone still belongs to the hill, waiting for someone to stop asking whether it exists and begin looking for the place it occupied.
According to Ua Broin (1957, 41) a large boulder lay on Saggart Hill, NE of Lauranaree or Lathair na Riogh. Not precisely located.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
