St. Laurence's church stood where Beamish and Crawford's Brewery now brews, its early history lost before a lane bore its name in 1666. By 1616 the building was already waste, suggesting decades of abandonment before the lane preserved its memory. The church may have fallen silent long before records began, leaving only a street name to mark where worship once gathered.

St. Laurence's church occupied site in area of present Beamish and Crawford's Brewery; a St. Laurences' Lane was referred to in 1666; building described as 'waste' in 1616; 'early history of the church is unknown' (Bradley et al. 1985, 68-9).
