Castlepook is a ruined Norman castle built in 1380 by the Synan family, standing four kilometres north of Doneraile beneath the Ballyhoura Mountains. Its limestone walls still hold an intact vaulted roof, though vandals stripped the smooth stone once used for a southwest spiral staircase and decorative frames. The loss transforms the ruin from a forgotten shell into a wound, inviting imagination to restore the steps, light and human motion that shaped it.
