What is recorded here

Gallán is a two-metre subrectangular standing stone in level Cork pasture, with large packing stones at its base and no trace on either the 1842 or 1904 maps. It may have marked a boundary, a burial, a meeting place or a warning, because people have long set stones in open ground to make the land remember what it owns. The absence from both maps does not empty the place; it suggests the stone belonged to an older layer of life that surveying passed over.
