Hut site in Cool

Hut site

What is recorded here

Cool in County Kerry holds a ruined circular hut with a 1.3m entrance gap, its stone walls choked by grass beside a rath. The small dwelling may have belonged to someone who watched the land, tended fire, or waited for news from the road. Its exact owner has vanished, but the shape of its room remains clear enough to imagine the heat, shadow and daily noise that once filled it.
This is described by Cuppage (1986, 130, no. 368) as being 'about 50 to 60m to NE [of rath KE036-075----]' and described as 'the ruined and grass-grown remains of a hut, roughly circular in plan and measures c. 3.6m in internal diameter and the NE facing entrance gap measures 1.3m in width.' There is a possible hut site (KE036-074001-) abutting its W side.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
