Church in Curracullenagh

An Seana-theampall: This is locally reputed to be the site of a church and it is so named on the OS maps. However, An Seabhac referred to it as a ceallúnach burial ground. Neither of these classifications is supported by the present form of the site which appears to be simply a natural, wooded hollow, a maximum of 3m deep. It does not appear to have changed much since the early 19th century when it was described as 'a hole about 6 feet (1.8m) deep and 12 (3.65m) in diameter'. A fragment of a building was previously noted at the inner end of the hollow and it was suggested that the site may have been a destroyed ringfort and Man-made underground passage (Browne, Armstrong and Macalister 1911, 50).
