Ecclesiastical enclosure in Colmanstown

Ecclesiastical enclosure

What is recorded here

No visible church remains, only a walled graveyard and faint twin ditches beside it. That is enough to suggest Colmanstown once kept a sacred boundary before the building disappeared. The stones still mark the edge of a place people cared enough to enclose.
This walled-in graveyard (DU020-009002-) is sub-circular in plan suggesting the former existence of an early ecclesiastical enclosure. Inside the graveyard wall along the E/NE quadrant there are traces of a bivallate enclosure (dims. ext. fosse Wth 2.75m; D 1.15m; int. bank Wth 1.25m, H 0.8m; int. fosse Wth 4m, D 1.1m).
