Half a metre beneath the shifting sand of a Collaghknock esker, an adult woman waits without grave goods or visible protection. Her bones align southwest to northeast, skull pointing toward the dark horizon, as if she chose that direction before forgetting the living world. The glebe gives up its dead slowly, stripping away every marker except the shape of the body and the patience of the soil.

According to Lucas (1969, 103), an adult female burial was found near the surface (D 0.55m) in a natural sand hill or esker. Apparently unprotected, the skeleton was orientated SW-NE, with the skull at the SW. No grave goods were noted. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 22-12-2011
