On the summit of a burial mound in Colbinstown, one of seven ogham stones at Killeen Cormac still bears the final letters LA, the ghost of a name now lost. The stone stands where the dead were laid, its edge worn smooth by centuries of rain and forgotten hands. Perhaps a child traced those last marks with a dirty finger, learning the shape of departure before understanding it. The mound keeps its silence, but the letters remain, waiting for someone patient enough to hear what they refused to say.

One of seven ogham stones (KD032-044001- to KD032-044007-) recorded by Macalister (1945, 30-31 (25 – No. VII)) at 'Killeen Cormac' burial ground (KD032-044----).This stone was found on the summit of the mound. Only the 'end of inscription' remains and this reads . . . LA (op. cit.). This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
