Lisheenduff

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Lisheenduff is a vanished Galway fairy fort, its subrectangular shape erased from undulating grassland except in memory and old measurements. It guarded a children's burial ground, suggesting the site touched life, death, and belief long before it disappeared beneath turf and time.
In undulating grassland. Marked on the OS 6-inch maps as a subrectangular enclosure (c. 40m NW-WE; c. 35m NE-SW). No visible surface trace survives. A children's burial ground (GA117-020001-) lay within the interior. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 19 February 2019
