What is recorded here

Clonmelsh graveyard is a compact rectangular plot in County Carlow, perhaps thirty metres north-south and twenty-eight east-west, with a church stretched along its northern edge. The small size suggests a village that buried its dead close at hand, maybe within steps of home, market road or parish life. The church facing the plot rather than towering above it gives the place a level, human shape: people walked in, stood among the graves, and left without climbing a hill or crossing a valley.
Rectangular graveyard (map dims. c. 30m N-S; c. 28m E-W) with a church (CW012-024001-) aligned E-W along the northern boundary of the graveyard. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 19 August 2011
