Man-made underground passage in Cliven — Report the wrong picture

Cliven holds a man-made underground passage in the Liss field, though local memory argues whether the entrance hides at the east or west end. That uncertainty suggests the cave resisted easy description, perhaps shifting in the minds of the people who first walked beside it.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 21 June 2012 Local tradition of a 'cave' in the 'Liss field'; conflicting claims that it lay to E and W ends of the field.
