Graigue Island

Eight wooden posts still stand in the clay north of Graigue Island, waiting for the Shannon tide to reveal their ancient purpose. They may have funnelled fish into nets centuries ago, turning the estuary into a temporary trap for human hands. The water hides them most of the day, but it returns what it takes, suggesting the river still remembers the shape of the men who built the weir.
