What is recorded here

Christs Stone is a bullaun stone beside a vanished holy well in Charleville Demesne, County Offaly. The well has disappeared beneath overgrowth, but the stone still stands as a marker of the place, recorded on the nineteenth-century Ordnance Survey map. It may have been an altar, a healing stone, or a boundary marker for sacred ground. Whatever it was, the community valued it enough to keep it marked long after the water stopped being easy to find.
