Ryefield Sand Bank

Ryefield Sand Bank is a islet in County Cavan. It may have appeared only after heavy rain or vanished before winter, forcing travellers to read water colour rather than trust memory. People may have stepped across it at low tide, carrying butter, children or grief to the other side. The bank still works like a trap door in the landscape, opening only when the river stops resisting.
