What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Castletown, County Sligo, Ireland. The raised circular area measures 22.6 metres across and sits on a gentle north-facing slope overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. A wide, low bank of earth and stone encloses the site, with a narrow stone-lined break at the east-southeast marking the probable original entrance. Excellent views extend in all directions except toward the south-east, south and west, where higher ground limits the sight.
Situated in good pasture on a gentle N-facing slope overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Excellent views in all directions are afforded from the site, except from SE-S-W where limited by higher ground. Raised circular area (diam. 22.6m) enclosed by a wide, low bank of earth and stone with evidence for both internal and external stone facing. No fosse. Narrow, stone-lined break (Wth.1m) in bank at ESE is probably the original entrance. Inside the bank at ESE is a possible Man-made underground passage (SL011-012001-). Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 January 2011
