Grave of the Black Pig

Grave of the Black Pig is a modest earthen mound in Muckduff, County Sligo, where local tradition claims a ferocious boar from the era of St. Patrick was killed and buried. The flat-topped ridge marker measures roughly thirteen and a half metres across, giving an ordinary prehistoric shape to a strange legendary death. That convergence of real earthwork and named myth makes the pasture feel occupied, as if the land still remembers the animal that fled southward before being cornered.
