What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Castlerock OR Castlecarragh, County Sligo, Ireland. An embanked circular area about thirty metres across appears on the 1838 map, while the 1914 map shows only an eastern arc. The possible rath is no longer visible at ground level, though a natural rock terrace drops steeply eastward where a hut site also occurs.

On a natural terrace, on an E-facing slope. An embanked circular area (diam. c. 30m) is indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, though only an arc of hachures E-S is indicated on the 1914 OS 6-inch map. This possible rath is not visible at ground level. The area is marked by a natural terrace of rock outcrop, dropping steeply to E. There is a hut site (SL031-037001-) in or adjacent to the site of this possible rath.
