Castle, motte in Thurstianstown is a flat-topped, grass-covered oval mound rising as much as eight metres above the Meath landscape. Its broad base and irregular berm suggest a defended residence rather than a random heap of earth. The shape still fits human hands, local watchfulness and the practical needs of a castle built to be seen, entered and remembered.

Flat-topped and grass-covered oval mound (dims of top 39m N-S; 23m E-W; dims of base 85m N-S; 70m E-W; H 3.5m at W to 8m generally) with some scrub has an irregular berm (Wth c. 10m) around the base SE-W-N. From S-NW the berm is defined by a wide bank (Wth c. 14m; H 1m) and could be interpreted as a possible bailey.
