Hut site in Carrickedmond — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

Carrickedmond once held a circular dwelling whose foundation Wright sketched in 1758 before the grass and forgetting erased it. The hut may have sheltered a herder, a weaver or a fleeing family during one brutal winter. Its absence does not diminish it; it completes it. What disappeared from the field reappeared inside the drawer, waiting for a hand honest enough to draw the circle again.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 According to Wright (1758, 8, Pl. 2, Site D), 'D seems to be the foundation of a circular dwelling'. Unfortunately his illustration gives no further information as to the nature of the site. No visible surface traces now exist.
