Gateway, extant 1841, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of lichen-spotted limestone ashlar panelled piers on banded plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices below lichen-covered shallow pyramidal capping supporting spear head-detailed wrought iron double gates with lichen-spotted limestone ashlar outer piers on benchmark-inscribed banded plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices below lichen-covered shallow pyramidal capping. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Cappagh House.

A gateway forming part of a self-contained group alongside an adjacent gate lodge (see 22903009) with the resulting ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Cappagh House estate: meanwhile, a benchmark remains of additional interest for the connections with cartography and the preparation of maps by the Ordnance Survey (established 1824).
