Cairnfield in Graigavalla

Located on a shoulder or col on the NE-facing slope of the Comeragh Mountains. This is an area of c. 2ha on a gentle S-facing slope containing about fifteen grass- and heather-covered clearance cairns (diam. 3-8m; H 0.3m). An old field wall (Wth 1.5-2m; H 0.3m) extends NE-SW (L c. 100m) across the site. Also within the cairnfield are a ring-cairn (WA006-014002-) and a booley hut (WA006-014003-). A cairnfield containing clearance cairns, likely dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2500–800 BCE). These cairns represent agricultural activity and land clearance rather than funerary use, reflecting long-term settlement patterns in the Comeragh Mountains.
