Grave Yd in Buttevant, County Cork, holds mid-18th century headstones and burials inside a ruined friary, proving death and faith shared one small rectangle. The Awbeg River still passes its west edge while St Mary's church and the friary ruin anchor opposite corners. People may have kept burying there because the cloister floor already felt like sacred ground, not a mistake to correct.

On E side of main street of Buttevant, on W bank of Awbeg River. Ruin of friary (14382) occupies SE corner; St Mary's Catholic Church (14735), incorporating earlier tower, occupies NW corner. Subrectangular graveyard (c. 60m N-S; c. 80m E-W); area of burial covers cloister area of friary and also extends inside friary. In use; contains 'a significant number of mid-18th century headstones' (Zajac et al. 1995, 13); memorials and gravemarkers inside friary listed by Fitzgerald (1904-6b, 233-6).
