Burnt mound in Ballygibbon (muskerry East By.)

In rough grazing, at the base of a steep S-facing slope and c. 10m N of a stream. A spread (L c. 12m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil was exposed in an E-W archaeological test-trench (Wth 2.5m) in 2006 (pers. comm. D. Sutton). The test-trench had been closed when visited in 2007 and there were no visible remains of the spread. A second possible burnt mound (CO062-245----) was exposed c. 20m to the W.
