Croppies Acre, a buried rectangle on the north Liffey bank, holds the executed men of 1798 beneath what is now the Esplanade. The ground remains closed to ordinary joy, yet it preserves the violence done to them and the shape of the town built above their bones.
An area known as 'Croppies Acre' on the north bank of the river Liffey, S of Collins Barracks was used as a mass grave for those executed or killed in 1798. It is located in the Esplanade (dims. L 94m, Wth 51m, (De Courcy 1996, 96-7).
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
