Bullaun stone in Ballydawley

A 'stone basin' or bullaun stone together with a stone head (SL020-171007-) from the site of a possible church at Ballydawley (SL020-171001-) are now in the NMI (DU018-410----; Pers comm. Martin Timoney). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 4 November 2013

Likely dating to the early medieval period, bullaun stones were often associated with Christian sites and may have been used for ritual purposes, such as baptisms or the preparation of holy water. Their association with a possible church site suggests a connection to early Irish monastic tradition.
