Ballymorris holds a circular enclosure around the Spire, a folly built in 1779 by William Henry Damer, Viscount Carlow. He placed it atop an older windmill and used the work to feed people through a hard winter. The stone ring still marks the edge of that generous gesture, while the Spire pokes through the fields like a needle holding time in place.
