Two low, curving banks still mark the footprints of huts inside the Ballyling ringfort, preserving the shape of domestic life long after their walls collapsed. They adjoin the inner defensive bank at the east and west, suggesting residents built their homes as close as possible to the protection of the fort. The measurements remain modest, about fifteen by seven metres, large enough for a family, a hearth and the ordinary noise of surviving.
