What is recorded here
Four ringforts stand together in adjoining fields at Ballyhoolahan Middle, but this one has surrendered most of its bank to the plough. What remains is a shallow circular rise, barely forty centimetres high, with a faint ditch marking its eastern edge. The others kept their shape; this one was taken for pasture and forgotten.
In pasture, on S-facing slope of E-W ridge. Depicted as hachured roughly circular enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) on 1904 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps. Circular area (c. 31.5m E-W; c. 30.5m N-S) enclosed by low rise (H 0.4m); shallow external fosse visible to E. Circular enclosure visible as shadow site of bank and external fosse in aerial photograph (CASAP). Cultivation ridges visible as cropmarks crossing field and enclosure on N-S axis also visible in aerial photograph (CASAP). Recorded by Bowman (1934, 491-2) as single-ramparted fort (dims. 36yd by 31yd; bank c. 7ft H) on H. O'Connor's land, with one-third of circuit levelled; interior c. 4ft higher than outside field level. One of a group of five ringforts (CO022-14703-; CO022-151---; CO022-152---; CO022-153---) in five adjoining fields.
