What is recorded here

Ballyfroota holds one of two ancient forts named by the Ordnance Survey in 1840. The circular earthwork stood about twenty-one metres wide with a sharp scarp before ploughing and pasture erased its ridge. It still turns up underneath soil and shadow, a ghost circle waiting for rain or satellite light to draw its shape again.

In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded this monument as one of 'two ancient forts' in the townland (OSNB Abbeyfeale to Bruree, 190).
