What is recorded here
Barrow is a vanished ring-barrow in County Cork pasture, reduced to memory after ploughing and land reclamation. It may have stood beside Dan Gearon's fort as a small burial mark or boundary marker, now absent from the surface but preserved in local description. The loss is typical across Ireland, where farming has erased countless small ancient features while leaving only written traces behind.
In level pasture. According to landowner, small enclosure c. 6-7 yards in diameter with 2ft high bank found during land reclamation. Broker (1937,55) recorded on Dan Gearon's land, besides his large fort (8016), two other nearly levelled enclosures, '30 and 10 yards in diameter', one of which 'is alleged to have the fosse inside the rampart'. No visible surface trace. Another possible ring-barrow (7884) c. 150m to NW.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
