What is recorded here

Maccivor recorded the stone in 1962, standing one metre tall in the middle of Andrew O'Connor's field at Ash Little. It still belongs to ordinary farmland rather than a museum, yet its unbroken presence suggests people once measured life, marked boundaries or simply watched the sky from that exact spot. The stone does not need a grand story because it has already survived every attempt to erase it.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 MacIvor (CLAJ 1962, 166) records a standing stone in middle of field, on Andrew O'Connor's land (H 1.1m, 0.9m square in section).
