Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ardlaman

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Ardlamans fairy fort was a twenty-five-metre earthen ring on a limestone hill, common enough to belong to nobody and everyone at once. It vanished before memory finished forming it, leaving only pasture and the ghost of a boundary. What was lost may have been a home, a hoard, or a child's imaginary castle drawn serious by time. The land kept the shape long enough to be mapped, then took it back.
In pasture, atop limestone hillock. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
