What is recorded here

On ground sloping gradually to NE in gently undulating terrain, under pasture. Interior grass covered and appears to be somewhat waterlogged in places with small area of reeds. Large enclosure (diam. 74m N-S; 80m E-W) defined by bank (Wth 3.2-2.1m crest, 3.4-4m base; H above int. 0.52-0.87m; H above fosse 1.7-1.85m) and external, mainly waterlogged, fosse (Wth 2-3.2m; D 0.6m), measurements in W and E quads respectively. Laneway runs along NW sector, following the curve of the monument. On lane side the fosse is reduced to a width of 1.2m. Gate to lane in WNW and gateway to adjacent field in NE quadrant. Stone visible in mainly earthen bank construction. External fosse appears to be channelling a diverted stream. E quadrant gap (Wth 1.3m) appears to be cut through bank with no corresponding causeway over fosse. Field boundary running NE-SW runs up to fosse in SE quadrant.
