R.C. Chapel (in ruins)

Church

What is recorded here

In marshy pastureland. Named 'R.C. Chapel (in ruins) on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map and depicted as a small rectangular building within a graveyard (GA116-021001-). On the 1920 edition of the map only a short section of one wall, aligned roughly E-W, is shown. On inspection only a pile of overgrown rubble is all that remained of the chapel. An E-W running field wall divided the graveyard and it is possible that one of the side-walls may be incorporated into it. No cut stone or architectural features were visible. A holy well (GA116-026----) lies c. 170m to the SE. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 29 January 2020
