Quay or wharf at Sarsfield Quay used to answer to Pembroke Quay. The old ladder still goes down to the same Liffey water, so the fish have endured a change of address without even getting a better neighbourhood.

Granite ashlar quay structure, built c.1800, once of several continuous quays lining line north side of Liffey in Dublin city centre. Quay walls are ashlar granite blocks with saddle-back finish, ramped in places. Iron stays to ladder descending to water level. North side bounded by tarmac pavement.

Sarsfield Quay is one of several quays along the Liffey, part of maritime developments within the city stretching back to the thirteenth century. Formerly known as Pembroke Quay, the structure dates from the early nineteenth century and is among the most westerly of the northern quays. The quay wall is of well-built ashlar granite and presents a strong visual statement. The quays are of significance in the context of the economic and maritime development of Dublin city as Ireland’s principal port. They have representative of early nineteenth-century engineering.
