Wall-mounted cast-iron "lamp box" post box, produced 1987, with "ER [Elizabeth Regina] II" royal cipher. Set in rendered wall.
An "LB221/2" model "lamp box" post box produced (1987) by Machan Engineering of Stirlingshire, Scotland, representing an interesting example of mass-produced cast-iron work making a pleasing, if largely inconspicuous visual statement in a rural village street scene. NOTE: The Queen Elizabeth II royal cipher ("ER II"), and the base layer of red paint, all point to a post box intended for a British territory and the reasons for its rebranding in line with the "An Post Corporate Identity Standards Manual" (1986) and for its installation in County Cork are unknown.
