What is recorded here

Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, installed c.1885. Victoria Regina royal cipher and crown over letter slot with projecting canopy over slot hood with raised lettering. Set in rubble limestone wall.
This post box is an important historic feature which adds context to the social and urban fabric of the town. Although the design is simple, the high relief casting of the lettering and crown are well-executed and demonstrate the high quality casting that was possible during the late nineteenth century.
