End-of-terrace three-bay two-storey with dormer attic house, built c.1800, having central gabled bay to front (west). Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack, rendered over hanging eaves course, cast-iron rainwater goods and recent rooflights. Recent timber bargeboards to central bay. Roughcast rendered walls, having red brick pilasters on tooled limestone plinths to ground floor surmounted by single-course red brick elliptical arched arcade style string course. Red-brick string course below first floor sill level. Square-headed window openings with tooled limestone sills throughout, having red brick block-and-start surrounds with red brick voussoirs to first floor. uPVC casement windows throughout. Oculus window opening to central gable apex having timber-framed casement window. Round-headed door opening within timber doorcase comprising engaged Doric columns on tooled stone plinths, fluted reveals and architrave. Timber panelled door surmounted by spoked fanlight. Rendered plinth wall having square-profile gate piers with tooled stone caps, cast-iron railings and gate.
This handsomely designed and well-proportioned house, located at the end of a terrace of three is an eye-catching feature of the streetscape. The terrace makes a distinctive architectural statement with its unusual design elements including red brick arcade style string courses and pilasters. The fine doorcases, timber sliding sash windows and timber panelled doors are among the many surviving original features.
