A fine cast-iron post-boxes produced during the early twentieth century after the formation of Saorstát Eireann (The Irish Free State). It has Celtic Revival font which was used by the government at the time for many official purposes in an attempt to create a sense of national identity, and forms an interesting contrast to the British royal insignias which had been used on post boxes throughout the country in the preceding decades.
