Pier-mounted cast-iron "wall box" post box, extant 1922[?], with "GR [Georgius Rex]" royal cipher. Set in rendered pier.
A "wall box" post box supplied by W.T. Allen and Company (fl. 1881-1955) of London representing an interesting example of mass-produced cast-iron work making a pleasing, if largely inconspicuous visual statement in a low-lying street scene with embellishments identifying the artistic potential of the composition including the King George V (1865-1936; r. 1910-22) royal cipher of additional significance as an imprinted reminder of the period when Ireland formed part of the British Empire.
