Riverside quay and slipway with entrance gates, built c.1852. Quay constructed of dressed limestone with dressed limestone steps and is surfaced with cobbels/setts. Remains of limestone mooring posts and cast-iron machinery/lifting gear to site. Gateway consists of four limestone piers on square-plan with limestone coping and cast-iron gates (double gates to centre flanked by single gates). Located on west bank of the River Shannon adjacent to main gates to Custume Barracks.

A robustly built stone wharf and gateway associated with Custume Barracks. It was originally paid for by the Midland Great Western Railway Company as part of the compensation for the line of the new railway interfering with barracks land. This wharf is built on the bank of the Shannon is opposite a gate to the Custume Barracks (15004131), which suggests that it was built for troops to board river transport directly from the barracks. It remains an interesting and attractive feature on the west bank of the Shannon.
