Pier or jetty in Killacolla has mooring posts carved from limestone, which puts a fairly firm end to a boat’s travel plans. You came up the Shannon dreaming of the Atlantic, and now you’re tied to a small piece of Ireland that won’t even discuss it.

Battered limestone pier, built c. 1850. Coursed rusticated walling, with tooled limestone parapet walls to west. Limestone cobblestones and concrete surface to pier. Carved limestone mooring posts to east. Cast-iron framework jetty to north having cast-iron braces.

This pier survives with its original form intact and serves to highlight the technical proficiency of marine architects in the nineteenth century. The pier forms an integral part of Glin's rich architectural heritage and forms an interesting silhouette in the landscape.
