Phoenix Park Visitor Centre

Entrance gateway, erected c.1830, comprising pair of cast-iron vehicular gates and single pedestrian gate framed by decorative masonry piers supporting cast-iron lamps. Ornate cast-iron gates with decorative castings hung on robust cast-iron posts having gadroon moulded caps. To north end is matching pedestrian cast-iron gate hung on painted square-plan pier with moulded panels and moulded cornice below square caps. Repeated to south end, both piers support decorative cast-iron lamps with glazed gas lanterns. Tarmac avenue runs on east-west axis through mature parkland opening onto Odd Lamp Road. Complemented by associated gate lodge to east.

Ornate cast-iron gates and posts located within the curtilage of Phoenix Park, and one of a number of fine gate and lodge compositions within the park boundary. It demonstrates high-quality nineteenth-century ironwork framed by decorative piers and lamps. The entrance screen, together with the adjoining gate lodge, forms an attractive composition and a fitting introduction to the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. It contributes to the rich and varied architectural heritage of Phoenix Park.
