What is recorded here
Walled garden, extant 1896, on a rounded cornered square plan with part ivy-covered coursed rubble limestone boundary wall to perimeter having overgrown slate flagged coping. In use, 1942. Now disused. Set in wooded grounds shared with Owenmore.
A walled garden not only contributing positively to the group and setting values of the Owenmore estate, but also illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate in the later nineteenth century. NOTE: The walled garden is described in the Irish Tourist Association Report (1942) as 'containing many splendid fruit trees, flowers, plants and vegetables [with] a glasshouse vinery producing a profusion of grapes'.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
